CHAPTER OBJECTIVES
Based upon their reading of Chapter 6, students should be able to:
- describe the kinds of relationships that lend themselves to study with cross-sectional and quasi experimental designs.
- discuss the respective strengths and weaknesses of cross-sectional versus quasi experimental designs.
- understand the major types of quasi experimental designs (contrasted groups, planned variation, time series, control series)
- explain the purpose of combined studies
- appraise the value of preexperimental designs, including the one shot case study.
- compare and contrast the various designs in terms of their strengths and weaknesses.
