CHAPTER OBJECTIVES

Based upon their reading of Chapter 19, students should be able to:

1. understand and describe the process of hypothesis testing.
2. explain the distinction between research and null hypotheses.
3. understand the difference between one and two tailed tests and be familiar with the distinction between Type I and Type II error.
4. conduct significance tests for the difference between means and correlations.
5. know the distinctive characteristics of parametric and nonparametric tests of significance.
6. conduct the chi square test of significance.
