New: Achieve for Speak Up! sets a new standard for driving student learning in your public speaking course with powerful learning content, engaging activities, and actionable insights and analytics. Achieve brings together an interactive e-textbook, speech videos, LearningCurve adaptive quizzing and other assessments, learning activities, and extensive instructor resources–all within a new, enhanced technology platform carefully built over the past five years.
A revised Chapter 15 (Mediated Public Speaking) prepares students to thrive in an age of virtual presentations. New and updated topics include the pandemic’s influence on mediated communication, videoconferencing fatigue, interactive features of videoconferencing technology, vocal variety, eye contact, and other tips for connecting with audience members.
An increased emphasis on diverse perspectives, images, and experiences helps students see themselves in the text. Discussions explore topics including gender identity, disability and audience demographics, the singular “they,” and neurodiversity and nonverbal delivery, while vibrant new images representing diverse people and experiences are integrated throughout.
New speeches and videos address timely topics. The sixth edition includes the full text of Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky’s compelling 2022 address to the U.S. Congress, as well as a new community engagement-focused persuasive speech discussing banned books and the role of school libraries. Both speeches are available fully annotated in the text and in video form on Achieve.
