                                            •  Statistics  is the science and art of collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclu-
                                              sions from data.

                                              may be people, animals, or things. For each individual, the data give values
                                              for one or more  variables.  A variable is a characteristic that can take different

                                              into a particular group, called a category. A  quantitative variable  takes numer-
                                              ical values that count or measure some characteristic of each individual.
