development of skills so that students are prepared to be successful when they reach
the unit where the standard must be attained. Some especially important or difficult
concepts continue to be reinforced in later units, which allows for smoothing out
some learning leaps that might be too dramatic for some students. After all, the
framework indicates when a skill should be assessed by the AP® Classroom Personal
Progress Checks, not necessarily when skills should be first introduced. That’s an
important distinction to keep in mind as you consider the carefully scaffolded
instruction that is laid out step-by-step in this program.

application in the classroom, some minor additions were necessary. For example, the Solves some presentation

AP® Framework expects that students understand the concept of archetypes without
necessarily having to memorize a list of archetypes. Ideas in Literature provides
students with examples and illustrations as well as lists to help them build their
understanding. Teachers then have the flexibility to pick and choose examples that
are most appropriate for their students.
