provoke good thinking, many of the other
essays in this unit could do so as well. You
could offer students a choice of essays they
have read, and ask them to find evidence of
correspondences—comparisons, contrasts,
or other connections—to develop a claim
about the extent to which the writers would
agree or disagree. Or, they could set it up as
a dialogue between the two writers using
both textual evidence and their own
creativity.
